Hello and welcome to Barking Kiln Pottery
My name is Jacky, I live in Newton Abbot, Devon, and in my late 50s I decided to take a huge leap: I bought a large kiln and all the equipment needed to finally follow my dream of making ceramics. That was just 12 months ago, and since then I’ve been on a journey of learning, experimenting, and creating.
I only make hand-built pottery – no wheels, just clay, slabs, and imagination. The process has been full of trial and error (with plenty of mistakes along the way!), but also moments of magic where the clay, glaze, and fire come together to create something truly beautiful.
The studio’s name and logo are deeply personal: they’re inspired by our beloved boxer dog, Henry, who is sadly no longer with us. His spirit and playfulness live on in every piece that comes out of the kiln.
Right now, I’m still developing my style and building up collections. Soon, Barking Kiln Pottery will officially launch, with handmade pieces available to buy – from simple, everyday ceramics to special one-off designs. This journey is about celebrating the handmade, embracing imperfection, and creating pottery that carries both story and soul.
